Kourampiedes (Greek Christmas Biscuits)

 

Christmas set is known. Melomakarona (Greek Christmas cookies)-Kourampiedes (Greek Christmas biscuits).

When you hear about melomakarona you think of kourampiedes and the opposite. I'm sure in all Greek houses there are both of these sweets. Surely some people prefer one from the other, but no matter what we like, we want to offer both.

I have given to you the recipe for melomakarona, so here we have the recipe for kourampiedes. An easy recipe with delicious results. With the necessary almonds, whole or chopped. And of course with the special aroma of fresh butter ... mmmm

Ingredients : 

 
  • 300 gr fresh butter
  • 110 gr icing sugar
  • 600 gr all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 vanilla
  • 25 gr black rum
  • 125 gr almonds
  • icing sugar for decoration
 

Preparation : 

 
  1. Lay almonds in a tray line with greaseproof paper and roast at preheated oven at 160C for about 15 minutes.
  2. Remove from oven and coarsely chop them. Let aside.
  3. In a stand mixer's bowl put butter and sugar.
  4. Beat at high speed for about 20 minutes till creamy.
  5. Add flour, baking powder and vanilla.
  6. Beat till ingredients are incorporated.
  7. Add chopped almonds, beat for a minute, then add rum and beat for 4 more minutes.
  8. Shape small balls out of dough and place them in a tray lined with greaseproof paper.
  9. Bake in preheated oven at 170C for about 25 minutes, till lightly golden.
  10. Remove from oven and let them cool completely.
  11. Place them on a platter and sprinkle icing sugar on top.
