French toast


I love food that is versatile. Βy saying versatile I mean that can be served in any meal ... breakfast, lunch and even dinner.

One such a dish I'll share with you today. Many would consider it as " snack " but I believe that it is a bit more of a snack ... it is so rich that can easily fill your stomach, so it's ideal for breakfast, or light lunch and of course as an easy solution for dinner.

The ingredients needed are definitely in our fridge at any time. In the basic recipe of Chef N.Makrymichalos, I replaced the slices of emmental with cheddar and the ham with turkey ham.



Ingredients :

  • 8 slices of bread (for toast)
  • 4 slices of emmental cheese (or cheddar)
  • 4 slices of ham (or turkey ham)
  • 250 ml heavy cream
  • 2 eggs
  • salt, pepper
  • 40 ml sunflower oil
  • 80 gr emmental cheese (grated)

Preparation :

  1. Preheat oven at 180C.
  2. In a large bowl put heavy cream, the eggs, salt and pepper and mix with a whisk.
  3. Fill every two slices of bread with a slice of ham and cheese.
  4. In a frying pan heat the oil.
  5. Immerse each toast in the cream mixture and saute in the pan from both sides.
  6. Remove from the pan and place in a baking pan.
  7. Add the grated cheese to the remaining cream mixture and mix well.
  8. Pour mixture over the toasts.
  9. Turn your grill on and cook until cheese melted and toasts are golden brown.
  10. Serve warm.
